Certified Color Expert!

I am so excited to announce a new service that is now being offered by Organized Homes & Staging by Kristin – Color Perfect Home Consultations! Recently, I completed the very comprehensive Certified Color Expert (CCE) training program that was created by Audra Slinkey, owner of Home Staging Resource. I passed the test last month and have been busy putting the pieces in place to incorporate this new service into my business.

I absolutely love looking at paint colors, and since I started my business in April of 2010, I’ve wanted to have a more complete understanding of color. This was the course I was waiting for!

The CCE 6-step color read process simplifies color selection so that the Color Perfect Home can be created! It starts with the homeowner’s preferences, assesses current furnishings and finishes and ends with several beautiful palette options, including large paint color samples, for walls, trim, ceilings, etc. I can also recommend new finishes (lighting, hardware, etc.), as well as furniture and accessory colors.

I am offering two Color Perfect Home Consultation packages: 4-rooms or 10-rooms. I also have single room add-on options. Each package includes transitional spaces such as entries, hallways and stairways. I would love to help you find your Color Perfect Home!

Basement Remodel – Part Three

I feel like we are finally making some progress! The basement ceiling has been scraped of the dated popcorn, the knock down texture is up, and it has been painted a pretty, creamy white, which keeps the room warm and cozy feeling.

The room was taped off with sheets of plastic and work began.

Basement Remodel – Part Two

Slowly, but surely, we are moving along with the basement remodel. We recently sold our pool table and the new owner had it professionally dismantled and moved to his house. Check! We also gave the large monster TV away to two teenage boys.  Check!  Their dad came with them to pick up the TV and you could tell how excited they were to get it.

I decided to keep the large TV cabinets and have a few ideas on how to repurpose them again to fit into the new space. I know for sure it will involve a beautiful shade of chalk paint!  Read the rest of this entry »

Basement Remodel – Part One

As much as I love to decorate and organize things in my own home, I am not the biggest fan of remodel projects.  I decided it may be interesting (and therapeutic) to blog about a project my husband and I are in the beginning stages of.  The plan is to turn our never-used basement into more of a theater-style room (since we love to watch TV and movies).  I am praying that the completion date is not going to be too far off; I am not a fan of having things in disarray!

DIY Project – Chalk Paint a Dated Bench

Within the last year, I have begun working on small paint projects to repurpose and update various items. I recently took on a larger project, and couldn’t be more thrilled with the results!

For about the past 11 years, we have had this bench sitting in our side entryway (the main entrance used in the house). I was getting really tired of it, and thought about getting rid of it and purchasing something new.  Then it dawned on me – paint it! Read the rest of this entry »

Anatomy of an Occupied Home Staging Project

I recently had the pleasure of working with a really sweet family to help them get their lovely house in Chaska, MN ready to sell. After a brief phone conversation to gather important details about the house and their timing on when they wanted to get the house listed, we scheduled a date for the home staging consultation.

Festival of Trees

This year I was honored to be one of 10 designers for the Auburn Homes Festival of Trees fundraiser. A lot of money was raised for the Life Enhancement Fund, including funds for a new mini coach to transport the residents of both the Waconia and Chaska Auburn Homes locations to various area activities and outings.

In late September, my sister and I attended the fall 2015 Minneapolis Junk Bonanza. I have attended twice in the past, but it had been a few years- the show has grown by leaps and bounds in those few years! JB 2015 - collage

Is Your House Your Home?

The title of this blog may sound silly to some.  Of course your house is your home, right?  When I think of a house, I think of a structure; a building with four walls and multiple rooms.  When I think of a home, it is more than that.  It is your personal sanctuary; the place where you live and probably spend a good deal of time.  In my opinion, your home should be a haven where you can completely relax and decompress from this hectic thing called life we are all living.

If your home is not comfortable to you, I have a hard time believing a person can easily find a sense of peace and restfulness.  Any dwelling can become a home.  I personally feel that a house becomes a home based on what you surround yourself with.
